Success at the 2017 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show

The Eucumbene Trout Farm has been awarded a prestigious silver medal for its smoked trout, with judges in the aquaculture division of the 2017 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show praising the “wonderful flavour” of the fish.

The judges also commented favorably on the slightly dry texture of the farm’s smoked trout as well as its great salt-and-sweet balance.

The Sydney Royal Fine Food Show’s national competitions honour the traditions of local agricultural shows and produce markets around Australia. In a nutshell, the competitions aim to discover the country’s best fine food producers.

All winners in the 2017 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show were selected by a judging panel of industry specialists, who identify the best in Australia while nurturing the growth of produce nationally.

Eucumbene Trout Farm co-principal, Karen Howells, said she was thrilled by the success of the farm’s smoked trout entry in the fine food show. Encouraged by this year’s silver medal, the farm has its sights set on the 2018 competition.

“As well as our smoked trout we have plans to enter other products, including our smoked trout pate,” Karen said. “Our Sydney Royal success adds to an awesome 2016, which includes the completion of our on-site accommodation plus a certificate of excellence from Trip Advisor.

“We also have exciting plans for 2017 as we take the farm forward.” We are open every day of the school holidays and our on-site licensed cafe, The Tickled Trout, is open during normal farm trading hours and boasts an eclectic menu that includes smoked trout salads.
